What: Hat Camp 2013
When: Thursday-Sunday September 26-29
Where: Camp Burton, Vashon Island/Seattle WA

Dear Hat Makers,
A quick post to advise you on the developing details for Hat Camp 2013. Many of you have contacted us about making your plans and we appreciate your patience.

First some organizational details and back story:

The Millinery Artisan Guild is more than 350 strong now and the interest in Hat Camp has increased as well. Hat Camp is an educational and informational forum for all forms of millinery and a celebration of the art of hat making. We welcome all professional, semi-professional and student hat makers. The first Hat Camp was held in August of 2005 and nearly every year since. Due to the current interest and the organizational demands for such a large group we have decided to find a permanent home and dates for Hat Camp as well as scheduling the event every other year on odd numbered years. Our hope is that regional events will be inspired on the even numbered years. Part of the charm of Hat Camp in the past, was that the event moved to different locations but this has become unwieldy now. We also need a venue with facilities for hands-on workshops and intensive demonstrations.

Hat Camp 2013 is scheduled for 4 days – Thursday-Sunday, September 26-29 at Camp Burton, Vashon Island, Seattle, Washington. Camp Burton is a lovely retreat center located on Puget Sound just a short ferry ride from West Seattle. www.campburton.com

Camp Burton has a variety of accommodations (mostly shared) and all meals are included. Approximate daily rate is $80.00. We can accommodate up to 125 people this year so we will need your to know your interest in attending by January 31. Please email Wayne at Wayne@waynewichernmillinery.com with your contact info. We will need to pay a deposit for Camp Burton in February so we will be collecting a partial payment in the very near future. We anticipate a nominal registration fee in addition to the Camp Burton accommodations. The registration fee is yet to be determined but we expect cost to be $100.00 or less per person.

Last year Hat Camp was held in Los Angeles in March and we had a fantastic time. Thank you again to Dave Temple for his event planning wizardry and Holly Garbutt for her communication skills, also to Louise and Lawrence Green and their staff for a wonderful and inspirational visit to Louise Green Millinery.

Best wishes for the new year and we look forward to seeing you at Camp Burton this fall.
